Who is float therapy for?

Flotation therapy is for everyone who feels overwhelmed and tries to find a way for body and mind relaxation. It is safe for most people, and you can use it even during pregnancy.

You should avoid floating if you have some health conditions such as open wounds, gastroenteritis, epilepsy, low blood pressure, or kidney disease. If you have any of the listed conditions, always check with your health care provider if it is possible.

What to wear?

Some people feel more comfortable wearing a swimsuit as it provides a sense of familiarity and security. However, we recommend floating in the nude for the most immersive experience. This allows the water to envelop your entire body, eliminating any distractions from clothing.

Do I need to bring anything?

Just yourself. We provide towels, robes, earplugs, and everything else you may need for a float session.

What if I’m claustrophobic?

We offer an "open float" this is an open pool with no lid. You can float with the light on or have music playing. Our open float is large, and you will not feel enclosed. Open floats provide a great experience for first time floaters and experienced floaters looking for a change from the traditional float pod.

Is the water clean?

Absolutely. The highly sterile salt water is filtered three times between each float and is sanitized with hydrogen peroxide and UV light. Additionally, the Epsom salts in the water are a natural disinfectant. The water in a float tank is far cleaner than any swimming pool.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

It is recommended not to shave or wax before. Eat a small meal at least an hour and a half before. Try to avoid caffeine before.

Can I float if I’m pregnant?

Yes. Pregnant women have used floating to relieve stress on their bodies for decades. There is even a special position you can float in that relieves all of the weight of the baby off of the mother’s body. If you are in your third trimester, or have any concerns, please consult with your physician before coming in.

How old do you need to be?

We ask that ages 8 to 12, have a parent/guardian present in the service room while floating.  Ages 13 - 17 have a parent/guardian present in the building.

Is floating ‘legit’?

Absolutely! Floating has been around for over 60 years and has tons of published research to back it up. As with any research… the more the better!

Floating with locs?

While float tank water will not harm locs, you may find it difficult to fully rinse all of the salty water from your locs in the limited amount of shower time allowed post float. We suggest fully wetting your hair with fresh water before and after entering the tank. The reason for this is that locs soaked with fresh water will absorb less salt water during a float. This makes it easier to rinse salt water from locs after your float session.

Hair stylists commonly recommend floating a day or two before your next stylist visit so they can give locked hair a proper wash. A rinse of white vinegar is a common method to remove any remaining salt residue from locs.

Can I float after I color my hair?

Please wait 2 weeks after dyeing your hair to float. If the dye is set and doesn’t come off on a towel after showering, you are good to go!

Can I float with a new tattoo?

Waiting for the tattoo to heal is very important. Tattoo artist/floaters suggest waiting 4-6 weeks for it to heal to reduce any pain and fading or discoloration of your tattoo.

Tips for Float therapy

1. Don’t expect your first float to be perfect
Your mind might race or you may fidget. Totally normal!
By float #2 or #3, most clients drop into deep relaxation much faster.

2. Avoid caffeine 2–4 hours before
Stimulants make it harder to calm your mind.

3. Eat a light snack beforehand
Not too full, not too hungry, keeps your mind from distracting you.

4. Use the restroom before your session
A small interruption can pull you out of relaxation.

5. Get comfortable with positions
✔️ Arms above head
✔️ Hands at sides
✔️ Starfish
✔️ Using the neck float
Find what feels best.

6. Breathe deeply for the first 5 minutes
Slow, deep breaths help you “sink” into the calm quicker.

7. Use earplugs (and put them in properly)
It keeps water/salt out and helps reduce noise.

8. Don’t wipe your face with salty hands
Salt in your eyes stings!

9. Let your mind wander
The goal isn’t to “meditate perfectly.”
Just let thoughts come and go.

10. Plan to relax after your float
Your nervous system stays calm for hours.
Don’t rush back into chaos!

11. Wear water shoes
If you think you may be unsteady on your feet, bring water shoes.
